Filip took the opportunity to work with products he knew
Was it his interest in music from high school that made Marshall stand out extra much when he then had to apply for a place? Maybe. But mainly it was the opportunity to work at a company he knew and already owned products from that attracted him.
"I wouldn't say it was because I studied music that I chose Marshall..."
Filip studied the nature program with a focus on music in Sollentuna, and thought, like many other third-graders in high school, about the future. It was when Tekniksprånget paid a visit to Filip's high school that he opened his eyes to the possibility of trying out the engineering profession, immediately after graduation.
Was it his interest in music from high school that made Marshall stand out extra much when he then had to apply for a place? Maybe. But mainly it was the opportunity to work at a company he knew and already owned products from that attracted him.
The main focus during the internship was to dive into Marshall's PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system.
"We had a lot of assignments with documentation," Filip explained. "We had to take stock in systems, see what was there, if something was missing, if there were duplicates." They also had some other tasks in other project groups, and helped where they could. With everything from Excel lists and calculations to documentation templates.
Maybe it could have stayed there, but when Filip got the chance to perform tasks with the Quality Assurance group, it was Vladimir Georgievski in charge who saw that Filip was very driven and hungry to learn more. "Together with the other testers, Filip did a great job of testing our products and creating test cases in our systems."
The assignment in the QA department then led to Filip getting an opportunity to stay at Marshall after the internship was over. The continued work involves testing the application and software in Marshall's products. Filip quickly became part of the team, doing the same work as the other app testers. "Now I would say that I am equal to the others in the QA team."
Interns are capable of more responsibility than you might think
When Filip reflects on his time as an intern and now as a consultant, he has clear advice for future supervisors: "Imagine that the interns can do more than you think. Prepare more tasks than you might think." It is an insight that comes from the experience of constantly wanting to develop and take on new challenges.
"It benefits many people that you feel that the tasks you are given, you can manage, and then you don't sit around waiting for new tasks," Filip explains.
Philip and Vladimir's common message is clear: young trainees are all too often underestimated. With the right trust, a clear framework and an employer who sees potential, they can take on significantly more complex tasks than you might first think.
