This can include everything from power distribution and electronics to communication systems and control systems. Electrical engineers can be involved in everything from large-scale power grids to microchips and embedded systems in households.

The education to become an electrical engineer is usually a master's degree that lasts for about five years. There are also shorter university degree programs that last for about three years.
